Scam Alert
The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam involving phone calls from phony officers.
According to the sheriff’s office, individuals are calling residents and posing as law enforcement officers. The scammers are telling residents they owe money on a loan and a warrant was issued for their arrest before telling the resident to purchase a prepaid Visa card. The scammers then ask for the card’s PIN and tell the resident to pay an additional amount in order to dispose of the warrant.
Sheriff’s offices do not place phone calls to residents demanding money for repayment of outstanding loans.
If anyone receives such a call, they should call the sheriff’s office at (336) 641-3355.
